Welcome back Sociology majors and minors!

Want to stay up to date on all these opportunities or looking for resources?

We’re excited to see y’all back on campus. For newly declared majors & minors this is the first Soc Scene of the year! Here you’ll find a variety of events, programs, internships, research, and employment opportunities we think Sociology students would be interested in! These letters are sent out twice a month so be sure to check your inbox! As your peer advisor I look forward to meeting all of you!

Advising Update!

With various Work From Home (WFH) schedules and based upon student data collected by us and other advising units, such as other departmental advisers like us and CLA Advising, there is an overwhelming preference for Zoom appointments for advising and that’s how we’ll continue for this academic year.  We will also devote more time to email in lieu of having regular Drop-In hours as we’ve done for the past several semesters.   In short, when you have a question send us an email!  When you want to meet with us, schedule an appointment and we’ll host it on Zoom, whether we’re working from home or in the office.

Employment, Internship, Research, & Leadership Opportunities

Schochet Advisory Board Application for UMN Students

The Steven J. Schochet Endowment is seeking 1-3 students interested in sitting on the Schochet Advisory Board (SAB) for the upcoming academic year. This is a low-time commitment (1-2 hours per month beginning in October 2022), and is an excellent way to contribute to queer programming on campus while collaborating with UMN faculty and staff. There is more specific information listed in the application survey–feel free to reach out to Rick Hoops (hoops018@umn.edu) with any questions!

Please note that if you are planning to apply for the Schochet Interdisciplinary Dissertation Fellowship or the Schochet Course Development Grant in Spring 2023, you are not eligible to apply. If you sit on SAB you may not apply for either of these funding opportunities due to conflict of interest.

  • Applications via this survey are due by 11:59pm on September 16, 2022. Access the application here.
