Upcoming Events & Programs

UCSB Global Studies Graduate Program

They are now in the application season for Fall 2024 Cohort. The following are different programs and opportunities:

1. MA in Global Studies

This is a 2-year Master’s thesis program in Global Studies. What sets our MA apart from many other Master’s programs is that it is extremely well funded. Most of our MA students receive fellowships and Teaching Assistant positions that cover tuition and help with cost of living expenses for 5 of the 6 academic quarters. The program has an international research/internship requirement, and students receive funding for independent summer research/internship abroad for 3-6 months after their first year.

2. PhD in Global Studies

The PhD in Global Studies is an extremely competitive program that takes 5-6 years to complete. We typically admit 2-4 PhD students per year, and offer a 5 year funding package composed of fellowships and Teaching Assistant positions. PhD students typically spend 2-3 years completing coursework, 1 year conducting independent research abroad, and 2 years analyzing data and writing their dissertation. Several of our PhD students have gone on to earn postdoc positions after graduation.

3. Additional Online Information Sessions

If you can’t attend the Graduate Fair, I will also be hosting 2 Information Sessions with current graduate students on Zoom in November. Learn more and RSVP here.

The programs are highly interdisciplinary, problem-focused, and are organized into 3 main areas of specialization:

  • Global Political Economy, Development, and Environment
  • Global Culture, Ideology, and Religion
  • Global Governance, Human Rights, and Civil Society

To learn more about the Global Studies Department, visit the website! You can learn about application requirements under the Admissions section of the MA and PhD pages. Keep in mind that the application deadline is December 15, 2023.

Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will serve these vulnerable children throughout a 12-month commitment, living in a private, gated community (at no cost) and receiving a living allowance.

Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will work collaboratively with other AmeriCorps Members in the home to ensure that children’s physical, emotional, and mental needs are met.
