UMN Sociology Undergraduate Newsletter

Hey y’all,

My name is Emma Pederson and I am the new Peer Adviser here at the Sociology Department.  I get to write the Sociology Newsletter to share important announcements as well as opportunities for you. In the near future, I will have Drop-In hours and appointments available. Bobby is of course also available!

What you need to know about me:

  • I am a junior studying Sociology of Law, Criminology, and Deviance, B.A. with a minor in Psychology.
  • You may recognize me from working the past year at the front desk in the Sociology Department or from UMSA events!
  • I was born and raised in Minneapolis and am a HUGE dog lover! Here’s a pic of my corgi to entice you to read further: libs

For those of you, like me, who need to readjust to school life, here are some important dates and deadlines:
September 10 – Last day to add classes without instructor approval
September 17 – Last day to cancel classes and not receive a “W”
September 17 – Last day to change grade basis (A-F or S/N)
September 17 – Last day to add classes without college approval
September 18 – Last day to apply for undergraduate graduation for the upcoming semester
November 12 – Last day to cancel classes without college approval online
November 13 – Registration begins for next semester (One Stop will email you with your assigned registration date)
December 12 – Last day of instruction for classes
December 12 – Last day to use One Time Only Late Withdrawal for regular term courses with a final during finals week
December 14 – December 20 – Final Examinations

The Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication are hiring an Undergraduate Instructional Assistant (UIA) for JOUR 3251, Evaluative Research in Strategic Comunication.
Interested applicants should have taken SOC 3801 or PSY 3801 and be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00pm-2:15pm.

Those selected will have the opportunity to work closely with local government appointees, gain networking experience and obtain institutional knowledge of government practices.

Applying to Law School
This workshop is open to all U of M students, especially for those who know they’re going to law school and would like guidance about the application process. We’ll discuss application materials and deadlines, as well as how to prepare your application materials so that you’re the best law school applicant you can be. If you are currently in the application process for Fall 2019, or thinking ahead to Fall 2020 admission, this is the place for you.
